Our story

THE BEGINNING

A shared belief
in dignity.

Peoples Organisation for Rural Development was founded by Jalla Lalithamma and Govindappa to work towards a more equitable society. Its registration certificate records society number 716 of 1992, registered at Chittoor on 25 November 1992 under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860.

Over the following decades, PORD’s work brought together women’s leadership, children’s rights, school participation, health, water and sanitation, land development and community advocacy.

Its approach is grounded in a simple idea: people should participate in the decisions that shape their lives. Village sanghas, child collectives and local organisations create spaces to identify needs, build confidence and act together.
